For students looking for information on a career in the trades and apprenticeship, this quick 5-minute video will share information you can use as you search for what comes after high school. Find out how to become a Sheet Metal Worker, Plumber or Steamfitter.
It's not a job. It's a career.
PMC/SMACCA, together with Local 601 & Local 18, have launched a new marketing initiative aimed at promoting careers in our industry to students, parents, and educators.
Our new site, www.choosebigger.com, is a resource for young people and their trusted adults to help them navigate and research future career opportunities.
The website includes short videos, sample test questions, job descriptions, and much more.
We urge you to share this link with your schools and teachers! We all know, word of mouth is the best promotion, so let's promote our industry within our own networks.
The plumbing, sheet metal, and steamfitting trades are viable career options. With apprenticeship programs readily available, you can get started today! With an apprenticeship, you earn while you learn, instead of racking up a mountain of student debt.
According to the Wisconsin Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, the annual earnings of an Apprenticeship Graduate are comparable to the earnings of a 4-year college graduate.
In 2014, the New York Times reported that the demand for plumbers and fitters is supposed to increase by 21 percent by 2022, and they will experience relative job security when compared with their peers. This makes the trades a suitable alternative to a college education.
